Behrend soccer team exits Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s soccer team lost to Rutgers-Newark in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship match. Three players – Blake Cooper, John Ziobro and Zak Schwarzel – were named to the all-tournament team.

Behrend’s basketball, cross country, swimming and diving and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 66, Allegheny 65

Juniata 67, Penn State Behrend 65

Baldwin Wallace 69, Penn State Behrend 55

RJ Marsh, a senior from State College, scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Juniata. Stefan Milinkovic, a junior from Fairport, New York, added 12 points.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 83, Fredonia 73

Penn State Behrend 78, Chatham 64

Marietta 76, Penn State Behrend 68

Rachel Majewski, a sophomore from Erie, scored 28 points against Fredonia. Madilyn Boyer, a freshman from Saxonburg, scored 22 against Chatham.

Men’s soccer

Rutgers-Newark 3, Penn State Behrend 1

Penn State Behrend 1, Alvernia 0

Blake Cooper, a sophomore from Murrysville, scored an unassisted goal at 3:52 into the ECAC semifinal match. The goal was his 11th of the season.

Women’s cross country

Olivia Nola, a sophomore from Erie, placed 282nd out of 292 runners at the NCAA DIII cross country championships at Michigan State University. She finished the 5K race in 25:16.0.

Men’s swimming and diving

Third (of 12 teams) at the Oberlin Invitational

Anthony Tumino, a freshman from Hershey, won the 100 backstroke, finishing in 53.06. He placed second in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:56.88.

Women’s swimming and diving

Tenth (of 12 teams) at the Oberlin Invitational

Emma Webster, a junior from Bradford, placed ninth in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:19.91. Bella Nadzam, a sophomore from Erie, placed 10th in the 1,650 freestyle, finishing in 20:11.02.

Men’s water polo

Washington & Jefferson 17, Penn State Behrend 9

Augustana 17, Penn State Behrend 6

California 22, Penn State Behrend 3

Eugene Kruger, a sophomore from Pleasanton, California, scored four goals against Washington & Jefferson. Ryan Kenney, a senior from Skippack, scored two against Augustana.
