'Rhythms of Life' Series Opens at Penn State Behrend

4:00 PM / September 28, 2022

"The Rhythms of Life" series at Penn State Behrend will open Sept. 28 with a free performance by the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, a folk-music ensemble that showcases Mexican dance, music and costuming. The performance, which begins at noon in the Reed Wintergarden, is free and open to the public.

The Calpulli Mexican Dance Company formed in New York City in 2003. In the Nahuati language, the name Calpulli means “family” or “big house”; the troupe performs Mexican folk dance, mariachi songs and commissioned contemporary works. The group has performed at Carnegie Hall and at the Queens Theatre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Festival of Nations in Tennessee.

"The Rhythms of Life" series began in 2002 and features an array of cultural performers from all regions of the world. The series is produced by the Office of Educational Equity and Diversity Programs, with additional support by the Student Activity Fee.
