Pennsylvania Sea Grant and Penn State Behrend to help launch Invasive Species Draft Series

5:00 PM / May 07, 2022

Pennsylvania Sea Grant, Penn State Behrend, and Erie Brewing Company will release a series of beers themed to promote awareness of aquatic invasive species on Saturday, May 7. The marketing materials for the beers — a lager, a red ale, a Maibock and a NEIPA — were developed by students in Behrend's Black School of Business, with input from faculty members in the School of Science and staff at Pennsylvania Sea Grant.

The beers will be available at a launch event on the lawn at Erie Brewing Company, at 6008 Knowledge Parkway, from 1-4 p.m.

The beers were developed by Erie Brewing Company and other partners in the Lake Erie Ale Trail. They were designed to promote awareness of aquatic invasive species and their impact on the natural environment and to emphasize the importance of clean water to local breweries.

Aquatic invasive species are non-native plants, animals or pathogens that harm the environment, the economy and human or animal health. They threaten the biodiversity and integrity of native communities, and they spread, often with unintended human assistance, through connected waterways, including the Lake Erie watershed.
