NASA astronaut Michael Fincke will discuss his upcoming space mission — his fourth trip to space — during the year’s final Open House Night in Astronomy at Penn State Behrend on April 20. The program, which is open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Otto Behrend Science Building.

Fincke, a Pittsburgh native, was selected as an astronaut in 1996. Over three missions, he has logged more than a year in orbit, with nine space walks. He will serve as Joint Operations Commander on the first crewed experimental test flight of Boeing’s Starliner, a seven-passenger, low-orbit space capsule.

Fincke will discuss the mission and NASA’s expanding partnerships with Boeing and SpaceX via a video link to an in-person program at Behrend. Jim Gavio, director of the Yahn Planetarium at Penn State Behrend, will moderate the program.

Astronomical observing at the Mehalso Observatory will follow the presentation, weather permitting.

Open House Nights in Astronomy are an outreach program of the School of Science at Penn State Behrend. These scientific presentations are intended for ages 8 and up; for additional information, contact the school at 814-898-6105.
