UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In her collegiate debut, Penn State softball pitcher Paige Maynard threw a no-hitter against Bethune-Cookman University on Feb. 18 .
It marked the first time in program history in which a pitcher threw a no-hitter in their first collegiate appearance.
Maynard fanned four batters and gave up no walks during the Nittany Lions' 3-0 win over Bethune-Cookman at the Jacksonville University/University of North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida.
As a result of Saturday's performance, Maynard was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week — the first for Penn State's softball program.
The Nittany Lions are off to a 5-0 start on the season, marking their best start since the 1974 season.
