UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two important Penn State Football season ticket deadlines are approaching and fans who purchase new season tickets will have an opportunity to select their seats at the Blue-White Game.
Beaver Stadium Virtual Venue Select-A-Seat began earlier this month and will end April 17 for the 2014 campaign, James Franklin’s first as head coach. Season ticket holders also are reminded that the deadline to pay for 2014 season tickets is April 1. Season ticket renewals continue at www.GoPSUsports.com/accountmanager. There again was no increase in season tickets prices for Penn State football for the upcoming season.
Jeff Garner, assistant athletic director for ticketing sales and service, reports that approximately 1,700 new season tickets have been sold thus far for the 2014 campaign. Members of the Athletic Ticket office will be stationed at the Blue-White Game on April 12 and fans who purchase new season tickets during the intra-squad scrimmage will have an opportunity to select their seats that day.
The Blue-White Game presented by AAA will kick at 1:30 p.m. April 12. There is no admission or parking fee. Stadium parking lots will open at 8 a.m.
Penn State alumni and fans interested in becoming a season ticket holder should call 800-NITTANY, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Franklin was named the Nittany Lions' 16th head football coach on Jan. 11. A product of Langhorne, Pa., Franklin led Vanderbilt University to unprecedented success the past three years as head coach, including consecutive nine-win seasons and bowl victories the past two years, as well as back-to-back Top 25 finishes, all for the first time in VU history. In his 20th year of coaching, Franklin was a two-time All-PSAC quarterback at East Stroudsburg University.
Penn State announced two new football ticket initiatives in January – the Recent Graduate program and variable pricing for single game public tickets.
-- The Recent Graduate program gives Penn State graduates who earned an undergraduate degree from 2010-14 at any campus the opportunity to purchase up to two season tickets for $300 per ticket for the seven-game home schedule this fall. The cost includes a $50 donation to the Nittany Lion Club and is a savings of 35 percent from the regular $460 season ticket price ($360 + $100 NLC donation).
Approximately 2,000 seats remain available for the Recent Graduate program on a first-come, first-served basis. Nearly 500 new Recent Graduate season tickets have been sold for the 2014 since the program was announced in late January. The seats will be located in the North Upper Deck, in Sections NAU-NLU. Interested recent graduates can call 800-NITTANY, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
-- Penn State is implementing a variable pricing structure for its single game public football tickets during the 2014 season. Single game tickets will go on sale to the general public in July, with tickets being available for as low as $40 for some games. The Nittany Lions return 41 letterwinners and 15 starters for the 2014 season (seven offense, seven defense, one specialist). The campaign begins with the Aug. 30 Croke Park Classic vs. University of Central Florida, the first of a trio of top 10 teams from last season the Nittany Lions will face. Penn State will host Rose Bowl Champion Michigan State (Nov. 29; Senior Day), Ohio State (Oct. 25), Northwestern (Sept. 27; Homecoming) and renew its rivalry with conference newcomer Maryland (Nov. 1) during its 2014 Big Ten home schedule. The Nittany Lions and Terrapins will play for the first time since 1993 and will annually meet as Big Ten East Division rivals.
During the 2013 season, Penn State’s loyal and passionate fans kept the Nittany Lions ranked in the top 5 nationally in average home attendance for the 23rd consecutive season. Penn State fans boosted the overall attendance for the Nittany Lions’ four Big Ten home games last year by 10,573 from 2012, an average of 2,643 per game.
Penn State fans, including the energetic, sold-out student section of 21,400-strong, have played a vital role in helping the Nittany Lions post a 52-12 on-field home record since 2005.
