ALTOONA, Pa. — After being named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week on Monday, Penn State Altoona baseball’s senior first baseman Catcher Cumming (Altoona, Pennsylvania/Altoona) received another recognition for his performance with the bat last week.

Cumming was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, which recognizes the top performers at each of the nine positions from Division III baseball teams across the country.

Cumming had a big day for the Lions in the team’s doubleheader sweep of AMCC opponent Medaille College on Saturday.

In game one, Cumming went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in, two runs scored, and one double. In game two, Cumming was 3-for-5 with three home runs — including a grand slam—seven RBI, and three runs scored.

Cumming’s three home runs in the second game of the doubleheader set a new Penn State Altoona baseball single game record, representing the most homers hit in a game in program history.

On the week, Cumming hit .571 (4-for-7) with nine RBI, five runs scored, three home runs, and one double. He posted a .556 on-base percentage, a 2.000 slugging percentage, and was perfect in the field with 15 putouts on 15 total chances.

Penn State Altoona baseball returns to action this Thursday, April 8, when the Lions will host nonconference opponent Wilson College for a doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field starting at 1 p.m.
