‘The Tina Turner Musical’ to make Penn State debut Oct. 6

Queen of rock’s comeback story will rouse an Eisenhower Auditorium audience

UNIVERSITY PARK—“Tina—The Tina Turner Musical,” the story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of racism, sexism and ageism to become the global Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll, will make its Penn State debut at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, in Eisenhower Auditorium.

The 12-time Grammy Award winner was one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. Turner’s contribution as an iconic music artist and performer, as well as influence on fellow artists and her inspiration to generations who followed, is legendary.

Singer-songwriter Jayna Elise leads the cast as Turner. Formerly known as Jayna Brown, Elise has appeared on stages with artists such as Tyler Perry and Queen Latifah, and she was a finalist on the hit TV shows “America’s Got Talent” and “American Idol.”

“Tina—The Tina Turner Musical” opened at the Aldwych Theatre on London's West End in 2018 before a global roll-out that brought the show to sold-out audiences around the world. In North America, the Broadway production opened in November 2019 and was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The musical was written by Tony Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. The new tour is produced by Crossroads Live North America.

The show is recommended for ages 14 and older. The production includes loud music, strobe lighting, haze, gun shots, scenes depicting domestic violence and strong language.
