UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Student Programming Association (SPA) Special Events Committee is excited to announce they are bringing Michael Che for a free comedy show. It will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, in Eisenhower Auditorium.
Michael Che isn’t only the co-anchor of "Weekend Update" on "Saturday Night Live"(SNL) but is also a co-head writer for the show and has made many other television and movie appearances. He also co-hosted the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and appeared on Chris Rock’s "Top Five," "@midnight," and "Best Week Ever. "
Che was named one of the “50 Funniest People” by Rolling Stone, one of the “50 Hottest Men in Comedy” by Buzzfeed and made the list of “Top 10 Comics To Watch” by Variety. He uses his comedy to address controversial issues, applying street culture with what The New York Times describes as “a reflective, laid-back stage presence."
Before his career on SNL began, Che performed stand-up on a variety of late-night shows from "Late Night with Seth Meyers" to "The Late Show with David Letterman." He had his first comedy special air on Comedy Central’s "The Half-Hour" stand up series in 2014 and more recently, his stand-up special, "Michael Che Matters," which aired on Netflix.
Those attending should be aware of new rules regarding cell phones during Michael Che’s set: “The Michael Che performance at the Eisenhower Auditorium will be a phone-free experience. Use of cellphones, smart watches, smart accessories, cameras or recording devices will not be permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones and smart watches will be secured in Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their phones at all times and can access their phones throughout the show at designated Phone Use Areas in the venue. All phones will be resecured in Yondr pouches before returning to the performance space. Guests are encouraged to print their tickets in advance to ensure a smooth entry process.”
The comedy show is free for all students with a valid Penn State University Park Student Photo ID and is funded by the student-initiated fee. Tickets are available upon presenting a Student ID.
