UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Two graphic design students in the Stuckeman School recently earned awards in the University and College Designers Association (UCDA) Vote 2020 Student Poster Design Initiative.

Scottie Everhart, who is entering her third year in the undergraduate program, earned one of two first place honors in the competition for her submission titled “Vote 2020—Make a change.” Samantha Chung, also a to-be third-year student, received one of six honorable mentions for her “Vote 2020” design.

The UCDA Vote Student Poster Design Initiative is designed to promote civil engagement by enabling students to design an original, nonpartisan poster for print or social media use. More than 100 entries were submitted for the 2020 competition as either part of a class assignment or done independently by students outside of class, and were reviewed by a panel of design educators.

Both Everhart and Chung created their designs as part of the Advanced Typography course they took during the 2019-20 academic year. Everhart shares her award with her instructor, Emily Burns, assistant professor in the Department of Graphic Design, while Chung shares her nod with Huiwon Lim, also an assistant professor in the department.

Founded in 1970, UCDA is the first and only association for professionals involved in the creation of visual communications for educational institutions in the United States. The organization works to elevate the importance of design and design education.
