Tim Russ, a member of the “Star Trek Voyager” cast whose television and film appearances are just part of a three-decade performing-arts career, will be the closing speaker for the second Wildcat Comic Con to be held Sept. 28 at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Russ portrayed Lt. Cmdr. Tuvok, the U.S.S. Voyager’s tactical officer and chief of security, throughout the show’s run from 1995 to 2001. He is also known for his roles as Frank the doorman on ABC’s “Samantha Who?” and as Principal Ted Franklin on the Nickelodeon teen sitcom “iCarly.”
Also a musician (guitar and vocals), director, screenwriter and voice-over artist, he will provide a musical performance, an autograph session and a presentation during closing ceremonies in the college’s Klump Academic Center Auditorium.
“We are excited and fortunate to have Tim Russ as our celebrity guest for this year’s Wildcat Comic Con. In addition to loyal ‘Star Trek Voyager’ fans, he has many other fans who know and love him in the more recent roles and projects he has been involved with,” said Joann L. Eichenlaub, assistant director of library services for the Madigan Library.
“I was speaking with someone who works for a possible vendor, and when I shared with her who our celebrity guest was, she immediately said she was coming – even if her company did not!” added Eichenlaub, a member of the Comic Con planning committee. “When you hear that kind of enthusiasm, you realize just how beloved Tim Russ is as an actor, writer, director and musician.”
A variety of artists, writers, educators, editors, publishers and commentators are also scheduled to appear at the 2013 Wildcat Comic Con, many of them returning from last year’s inaugural event.
Recently added to the lineup is John Buckland from “Heroes+4+Higher,” who will portray several well-known superheroes from noon to 6 p.m.
The keynote speaker will be Michael Bitz, executive director of the Center for Educational Pathways, whose innovative Comic Book Project and Youth Music Exchange have melded pop culture and basic education to the benefit of more than 100,000 students.
Admission is an all-inclusive $20 per person (children younger than 12 are free). Tickets are on sale at the Community Arts Center’s box office site, https://tickets.caclive.com.
