Penn State’s MLK Jr. Memorial Banquet to air Feb. 27 on WPSU

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – WPSU-TV will broadcast Penn State's 39th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Banquet at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.The banquet was held in President’s Hall at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel on Jan. 15, King’s birthday.

The evening commemorated the life of King with the theme “Reflect on Yesterday. Experience Today. Transform Tomorrow." This year’s banquet also acknowledged the passing of Nelson Mandela and the collective efforts of both civil rights leaders.

The event included performances by Penn State and State College Area School District students, as well as the popular Penn State ensemble Essence of Joy.

During the banquet, the Humanitarian Service Award was presented to Charles Dumas, a professor in Penn State’s School of Theatre. State College Area School District elementary and middle schools were also honored.

The banquet was sponsored by the Forum on Black Affairs.
