UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s second annual Human Library has been rescheduled for Friday, April 20. The event encourages participants to engage in conversations that challenge stereotypes. Difficult questions will be expected, appreciated and answered.

The phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover” isn’t simply a figure of speech at the Human Library, where readers can sign up to hear the life stories told by “human books.” Penn State faculty, students and staff can check out a “book” to learn more about another person’s experiences in a supportive, safe environment. Read the 2018 human book titles and sign up to “read” a human book during 45-minute sessions from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20, in Pattee Library and Paterno Library.

Those unable to “borrow” a human book are encouraged to attend the 11 a.m. Showcase Panel in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library, featuring a synopsis of several “books.” Those unable to attend in person can participate via livestream on MediaSite Live. The Human Library is sponsored by Penn State University Libraries in cooperation with Adult Learner Programs and Services, Gender Equity Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, LGBTQA Student Resource Center, Multicultural Resource Center, Paul Robeson Cultural Center, Schreyer Honors College and the University Office of Global Programs.
