UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Centre Stage will produce “Alice in Wonderland,” adapted and directed by Jenny Lamb, April 15 through 26, at the Playhouse Theatre on the University Park campus.

A combination of the well-known stories of Lewis Carroll’s books “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” “Through the Looking-Glass” and “What Alice Found There,” this production looks at the indelible themes of change, growth, desire, status, societal rules and loss of innocence, as we unravel the mystery of the human psyche through a highly physical and metaphoric trip "down the rabbit hole," according to adapter and Director Jenny Lamb.

"Because when I think of 'Alice in Wonderland' I think of these things: Hunger. Power. Control. And dreams," Lamb wrote. "And when I am striving to find the immediate relevance of this epic classic tale and how these themes relate to the current world we are in, I found it to be a little bit on the nose. It really seems that we have fallen down a rabbit hole of our own. Into a world of nonsense. Into a world where curiosity is discouraged. Into a world where women’s autonomy is at risk. Into a world of power and control. Into a nightmare that we must awaken from. How can you win the game when the rules keep changing? How do you keep fighting when your power is stripped away?”

Please note: This adaption contains adult themes. Parental guidance strongly suggested.

Evening performances at 7:30 p.m. are $23; preview performance at 7:30 p.m. is $20; and tickets for students are $15. For additional show information, visit the Penn State Centre Stage website. Non-Penn State Arts and Architecture students can see it for free by visiting the Arts Ticket Centre during the week of the production.
