UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The HUB-Robeson Galleries presents "C/O Commonwealth," a juried exhibition which invited artists to make site-responsive and socially engaged works of local relevance and international significance, charged by the HUB-Robeson Galleries Student Advisory Council.

The exhibit features the work of Benjamin Andrew, the Center for the Performing Arts, Climate Art and Action, Marissa Alise Baez, Dennis Redmoon Darkeem, Christina Dietz, Adam Farcus, Kiana Honarmand, Corinne Jones, Kate McGraw, Ann Tarantino and Tiara Zhané.

The exhibition is on view in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Art Alley and exhibition cases located throughout the HUB-Robeson Center from May 24 through June 25.

The resulting sculptures, wall drawings, murals and installations are in care of the five pillars of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. Exploring labor, care economies and the collective power and colonial history integral to the term "commonwealth," these works recognize the term’s connection to exploitation by looking at generational wealth, land, ownership and the on-going impacts of these systems on the world's climate.

"The arts are fundamental to our humanity, to our University and to our world," said Lindsey Landfried, curator and senior gallery manager of the HUB-Robeson Galleries. "They inspire us to find understanding and beauty and help us to express our values and diversity across ethnicity, religion and race."

From critical conversations, to writing, image-making and any number of creative actions, "C/O Commonwealth" holds space for artworks and artists to use creative methods for examining unequitable structures shaping people's lived realities and also posits ways that we might come together.

At the conclusion of the exhibition, artist Kiana Honarmand’s work will continue to be featured in the HUB-Robeson Center’s exhibition cases from June 25, 2021, through Jan. 26, 2022. Honarmand, an interdisciplinary artist from Iran, uses art to address issues related to her cultural identity; violation of women's rights in Iran; censorship; surveillance; and the Western perception of the Middle East.

Art Alley and the exhibition cases are available to visitors 24/7 within the HUB-Robeson Center. Visitors are required to wear a mask at all times and practice proper social distancing inside the HUB, in accordance with the University's COVID-19 safety measures.
