UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The HUB-Robeson Galleries will present the 2019 Juried Exhibition: "Women Photojournalists of Washington" (WPOW) 13th annual juried show from March 9 to April 5 in Art Alley in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus of Penn State.
An artist reception and talk will take place at 6:30 p.m. March 18, in Hetzel Lounge, HUB-Robeson Center. The talk is free and open to the public.
This exhibition features standout photography and multimedia pieces by members of WPOW from the past year. The show comes to Penn State from the Hillyer Center for the Arts in Washington D.C. in collaboration with the Bellisario College of Communications. Works were selected by jurors Rachael Strecher, director of storytelling grants and fellowships at the National Geographic Society; Jehan Jillani, picture and visuals editor at the Guardian U.S.; and Melina Mara, national political staff photojournalist at the Washington Post.
Photographers and videographers featured in the exhibition include Anna Moneymaker, Abby Greenawalt, Allison Shelley, Carol Guzy, Calla Kessler, Caroline Gutman, Deveney Williams, Erin Schaff, Erin Scott, Erica T. Baker, Hailey Sadler, Hadley Chittum, Katherine Frey, Nasreen Alkhateeb, Reshma Kirpalani, Rosem Morton, Sarah Silbiger, Sarah Baker, Sanwaree Sethi Robinson, Whitney Shefte, Amy Toensing, Leah Millis and Laura Saunders.
Women Photojournalists of Washington is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about the work and accomplishments of women in the field of visual journalism. WPOW fosters the professional success of female photographers, photo editors, multimedia producers and students by providing regular opportunities for members to gather, educate and inspire.
On March 18, Sarah Silbiger and Allison Shelly will present an artist talk and reception in Hetzel Lounge and Art Alley at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to this free, informal celebration to hear about the Women Photojournalists of Washington. The speakers will also be meeting with classes from the Bellisario College of Communications to talk about their work and experiences as photojournalists.
