UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – While the HUB-Robeson Center is closed, the HUB-Robeson Galleries have moved some of their exhibitions online. Visitors to the online exhibitions can explore photographs, videos, interviews, and more. Initially, there will be three gallery exhibitions available to anyone:
- "Still Here" – Curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah, Kiara Ventura and Dexter Wimberly, "Still Here" explores stories of migration, displacement and survival by eight artists that represent a spectrum of the African Diaspora. "Still Here" underscores the resilience of people of the African Diaspora, and how images can serve as a device to demonstrate how these communities have developed tactics, language and strategies to assert their agency and sovereignty.
- "Women Photojournalists of Washington" – This exhibition features standout photography and multimedia pieces by members of WPOW from the past year. Women Photojournalists of Washington is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about the work and accomplishments of women in the field of visual journalism. WPOW fosters the professional success of female photographers, photo editors, multimedia producers and students
- "Illuminating Illusions" – Is it real or an illusion? A natural phenomenon or clever design? This collaborative exhibition presented by members of the Penn State Museum Consortium explores various facets of illusions in science, art, literature and nature. The exhibition showcases a selection of objects and illusion examples that illustrate relevance to current day culture, scientific discovery, or both. The Penn State University Museum Consortium (PSUMC) is a network of museum and archival professionals and education specialists associated with the unique facilities and irreplaceable collections that reside at University Park. PSUMC actively promotes Penn State’s commitment to engaged scholarship, hands-on learning and integrated programs of teaching, research, and service. Lindsey Landfried, curator and senior gallery manager, discusses the goals around the decision to transition these galleries to virtual content. “Our hope is for these exhibitions to bring inquiry, awe, vitality, and sense of purpose to our audiences. More importantly, these exhibitions are invitations for people to come together around images and ideas, playing a crucial role in raising awareness and supporting wellness. Bring a friend or meet a friend by visiting an online program.”
“The galleries are serving our students through this period of remote learning and for our work, that means bringing the exhibitions to them, where they are, with a mindset of making art exhibitions as accessible as possible,” Landfried said.
