MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Penn State Greater Allegheny’s Division of Student Affairs has announced three events this week, including a Unity Talk, leadership speaker series, and concert featuring Pittsburgh’s Jasiri X.
Unity Talk — 6 p.m., Nov. 17
Hosted by PSUGA Black Student Union and the PSUGA Student Government Association, the Unity Talk, a pillar of the Crossing Bridges Summit, will provide students, faculty, staff and guest participants the chance to hear from panelists from 1Hood Media. Panelists include Jasiri X, Farooq Al-Said, Shyheim Banks, and Miracle Jones. They will discuss the many forms of activism, from protest and civic participation, to art, poetry and music. Young Black Leadership Series — 7 p.m., Nov. 18
The Young Black Leadership Series will feature Emmai Alaquiva, an Emmy Award-winning film director, photographer and composer. Alaquiva skillfully showcases the soulful account of humanity across multidisciplinary art platforms. Once homeless, Alaquiva is now a philanthropic entrepreneur as CEO of Ya Momz House Inc., co-founder of Hip-Hop On L.O.C.K. and curator of Optic Voices. Alaquiva has been nationally honored as Black Enterprise Magazine’s “Top 100 Modern Men of Distinction"; appointed by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf to serve on the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; and has been recognized by former President Barack Obama as a national BMe Community Leader. Most recently, Alaquiva has been accepted into the Kennedy School for Executive Education at Harvard University, class of 2020. To register for the event visit this link.
Jasiri X concert — 7 p.m., Nov. 19
The week’s activities end with a live virtual performance from Jasiri X, a Pittsburgh-based hip-hop artist, artist and co-founder of 1Hood Media.
