UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The next virtual episode of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s “Front Row: National” will feature works for wind instruments by composers from Europe and the United States in “Winds from Different Lands.”
The virtual event will begin at noon Monday, March 14, and will be available to stream until noon Friday, March 18. The event is free, but registration is required. Visit the Center for the Performing Arts online for more information and to register.
The program includes:
- Selections from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” (featuring James Austin Smith and Stephen Taylor, oboists; Tommaso Lonquich and Rome de-Guise Langlois, clarinetists; Mark Goldberg and Peter Kolkay, bassoonists; and David Jolley and Erik Reed, horn players).
- Mily Balakirev’s octet for flute, oboe, horn, violin, viola, cello, bass and piano, Op. 3 (featuring Ransom Wilson, flutist; Smith; Jolley; Sean Lee, violinist, Mark Holloway, violist, Inbal Segev, cellist; Xavier Foley, double bassist; and Michael Brown, pianist).
- Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music” for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn, Op. 31 (featuring Tara Helen O’Connor, flutist; Taylor; Sebastian Manz, clarinetist; Kolkay; and Radovan Vlatkovic, horn player).
- Francis Poulenc’s sextet for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano (featuring O’Connor; Taylor; de-Guise Langlois; Kolkay; Vlatkovic; and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, pianist).
During an intermission, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Artistic Directors and “Front Row” curators David Finckel and Wu Han will host a discussion with selected musicians from the program.
