UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Arts and Architecture will host the 2022 Summer Institute on Contemporary Art (SICA), a professional development opportunity for preK–12 teachers, June 13–17 on the Penn State University Park campus.

This year SICA will focus on an exploration of sustainability and social action through the arts, with activities organized around five themes: diversity/equity, inclusion/access, sustainability, justice and belonging.

Free registration is open now via Eventbrite. A virtual attendance option is available. If you are interested in the virtual attendance option or need a stipend for travel and lodging, contact Alexandra Allen, SICA co-director and postdoctoral scholar of art education.

The Summer Institute on Contemporary Art was established in 2013 by B. Stephen Carpenter II, now the Michael J. and Aimee Rusinko Kakos Dean in the College of Arts and Architecture, and Dana Carlisle Kletchka, former curator of education at the Palmer Museum of Art and now assistant professor of art museum education at Ohio State. Allen is co-director of SICA along with Carpenter. Sessions will be led by Allen, Carpenter, and Jeffrey Cornwall, who recently received his Ph.D. in Art Education from Penn State.

SICA is sponsored in part by the Brown Family, Harold and Susan Quinque, Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art, and the Penn State School of Visual Arts.

Registration for 2022 SICA is free. Act 48 hours are available for participants. For more information, visit the SICA website.
