UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Arts and Architecture’s Stuckeman School at Penn State will host two guest lectures at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11: Dinora Martínez Schulte, co-founder and principal of the design firm MANUFACTURA in Mexico, and Thomas Wilder, a 2008 graphic design alumnus and global principal at Wolf Ollins, an international brand consultancy agency.

Schulte’s lecture will be held via Zoom by the Department of Architecture and livestreamed in the Stuckeman Family Building Jury Space. The Department of Graphic Design will host Wilder for his talk in Foster Auditorium, 102 Paterno Library, at University Park.

Schulte’s lecture, titled “Crafting Trade Through Innovation,” will discuss her interdisciplinary research and production factory MANUFACTURA, which involves itself with manufacturing through innovation from tradition for a sustainable future.

Schulte’s research emphasizes cultural integration through the use of technology, maintaining sustainable practices by using locally sourced materials, and preserving the country’s rich cultural heritage. In 2023, she was selected for the Open Studio Residency 2024 at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts at Deer Isle in Maine through being a member of the editorial board of CEMEX México 2023.

Schulte also is an adjunct professor at Universidad Iberoamericana and Universidad La Salle in Mexico City.

Hosted by the graphic design department, Wilder will be visiting campus as a recipient of the College of Arts and Architecture’s 2024 Alumni Awards. His lecture will focus on his career path that led to his current role at Wolf Ollins where he oversees four of the agency's offices: New York, London, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Prior to Wolf Ollins, he served as the creative director of Sweetgreen, a fast-casual restaurant chain that specializes in salad and grain bowls. In 2022, Fast Company named his work for Sweetgreen as the best rebrand of the year.

Wilder was previously recognized for his work as partner and creative director of the global brand and design consultancy COLLINS, where he worked with ESPN, Amazon, Target and more.

Wilder’s work has been internationally recognized by design organizations and publications, such as The Art Directors Club, D&AD, The One Show and Clios, among others.

Both lectures are free and open to the public.
