UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State College of Arts and Architecture’s Stuckeman School will hold its inaugural graduation exhibition to showcase the work of the graduating students in the school’s three departments — architecture, graphic design and landscape architecture — from April 28 to May 4 in the Stuckeman Family Building.
Chingwen Cheng, director of the Stuckeman School, said that students will display their capstone projects and will hopefully learn about the work of those in disciplines other than their own.
“I hope our school has provided [the graduating students] with the confidence and the skills they need to be resilient and accommodate all situations,” Cheng said. “I believe that design thinking is a tool — a method — for how to solve problems, how to be critical [thinkers] and how to be able to research on your own to find information and make the best judgment.”
The exhibit’s official opening will be at 3 p.m. on April 28 in the Stuckeman Family Building Jury Space. Architecture student work will be in the Jury Space, graphic design work in the Rouse Gallery and landscape architecture in the first-floor hallway. The exhibition will run through the College of Arts and Architecture’s commencement ceremony on May 4.
“Education does not stop here at school. We spend a lifetime learning. Hopefully, we have prepared [the graduating class] to feel confident to explore the world and embrace it.” Cheng said. “I believe that design has the ability and, in some sense, the responsibility to make our environment, our community and the world a much better place.”
