Penn State Concert and Symphonic bands to present concert on March 6

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State School of Music will offer an evening of wind band music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in Eisenhower Auditorium at University Park. Under the direction of Michquelena Ferguson, assistant teaching professor and assistant director of athletic bands; Robert Hickey, assistant director of athletic bands; and graduate assistant conductor Maria Flowers, the Penn State Concert Band and Symphonic Band will present a diverse program featuring contemporary and classic works.

The Concert Band will perform works such as Katahj Copley’s "Astra - Fanfare for Band" and Elena Specht’s "Three Places in the West," a piece inspired by striking landscapes across the United States. The Symphonic Band offers a compelling blend of tradition and innovation, performing Florence Price’s beautifully expressive "Adoration," John Philip Sousa’s spirited "Fairest of the Fair," and Ira Hearshin’s imaginative response piece, "'After' Fairest of the Fair."

Tickets are available through the Arts Ticket Center. Prices are $12.50 for adults and $5 for students, with the box office opening one hour before each concert. A livestream also will be accessible for remote viewers via the Penn State School of Music livestream page.
