Metal and mixed media student artwork on display across University Park campus

"Familial Growth," by Marianna Renda, aims to connect naturalistic and organic characteristics with man-made materials to challenge the complexity of man versus nature and the abstraction of dramatic romanticism. “Blood, Sweat and Steel,” an exhibition of metal fabrication and mixed media artwork by School of Visual Arts undergraduates in Art 330, will be on display in approved outdoor locations and in Patterson Gallery during April. The outdoor work is on view now through April 27. The works in Patterson Gallery will be on view April 23-28. A public reception will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 5:30-7 p.m., in Patterson Gallery.

Each project exhibited is in conversation with a site. Some projects do this by amplifying an existing quality of a location, while others are designed to encourage unexpected interaction. All outdoor works are installed in accordance with OPP’s guidelines for temporary installations.

“This project asks students to make work with a high level of craftspersonship, instills professionalism and showcases the intelligence of the Visual Arts students to the University,” said Matt Olson, assistant teaching professor. He co-instructs the course with Bonnie Collura, professor of art in sculpture. Victoria Oishi serves as teaching assistant.

Exhibiting artists include Meghan Briggs, Marianne Chico, Selena Donado, Hengshan Hao, Xinran Liu, Delainey Mark, Greta Miller, Victoria Oishi, Marianna Renda, Margo Silverman, Ziwei (Helen) Sun, Allison Walter, Grace Walton and Samuel Zablotny.
