UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Center for Pedagogy in Arts and Design (C-PAD) has launched C-PAD Shares, an online space that offers faculty members instructional resources and an opportunity to build community through dialogue and collaboration.

Anchored by a monthly email, the next of which is due for release on Oct. 3, each edition of C-PAD Shares offers three articles written by higher education peers that discuss pedagogical strategies and solutions to common issues.

Curated by Bill Rose, instructional designer in the Office of Digital Learning, each edition is themed, and the articles are introduced with an abstract written by Rose accompanied by an estimated reading time.

The September edition featured “21 Ways to Structure an Online Discussion,” written by Annie Prud’homme-Généreux, director of continuing studies at Capilano University, and according to Rose, engagement with the piece has already “born fruit.”

“We had a LARCH (landscape architecture) faculty member implement strategies discussed in the article and with great success,” Rose said. “To me, that is C-PAD Shares in action, and it is affirming that this is a way for C-PAD to expand our reach.”

The forthcoming Oct. 3 edition will be centered on James Lang’s book written in 2016, “Small Teaching,” and the articles will provide insights into the application of techniques developed by Lang.

As C-PAD Shares grows, Rose said the site will include a comment section where colleagues can discuss the articles and hopefully plant the seed of collaboration that could sprout seminars, workshops and invited expertise.
