UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Evelyn Murphy-Welconish has been named as the fall 2023 commencement student marshal for the College of Arts and Architecture. The commencement ceremony will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center on Dec. 16 at 12:30 p.m.

Murphy-Welconish is graduating from the School of Theatre with a bachelor of fine arts degree in theater with a focus on stage management.

“I am extremely excited to be named as the student marshal,” she said. “This honor reflects the work I have done at Penn State, and it makes me feel very accomplished.”

During her time at Penn State, Murphy-Welconish emerged as a leader in the School of Theatre while working her way to becoming a stage manager for Penn State’s Centre Stage.

Her credits include managing “Into the Woods” during the 2022-23 season and “Bonnets: How Ladies of Good Breeding are Induced to Murder,” which currently is running through Dec. 2.

After graduation, Murphy-Welconish is moving to New York City to chase her dream of becoming a stage manager on Broadway, she said. Reflecting on her time at Penn State, she said that while she took advantage of the opportunities available to her at the University, her family and friends are why she succeeded.

“It was just great to have that support and feel it from everyone,” she said. “I couldn’t have done this without them.”
