Nau began her collegiate softball career with an impressive opening week in the pitching circle, recording four wins while making six appearances, including three starts.
Against Clark last Thursday, Nau tossed a complete game to pick up a shutout win, going seven innings, holding Clark scoreless while allowing only four hits and no walks, and striking out four batters. She made a scoreless relief appearance later that day against Bethany, going 1 1/3 innings and yielding just one hit.
Nau made two more appearances in the circle on Friday. She started against Baruch and went the distance again for another victory, pitching seven innings, limiting Baruch to two runs on seven hits and no walks, and punching out seven batters. The right-hander tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen later that day against North Central, striking out three.
Nau finished her week with two more pitching appearances on Sunday, both of which resulted in a win. The right-hander entered in relief against St. Joseph, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and a walk to register the victory. She started the Lions’ next game against Emerson, picking up a complete game win after going seven innings, allowing five runs, and striking out a pair.
On the week, Nau compiled a 4-0 record, a 1.84 earned run average, and a .97 WHIP. She pitched 26 2/3 innings and recorded 16 strikeouts. Nau currently leads the AMCC in wins (5), complete games (4), and innings pitched (32).
Penn State Altoona softball is 6-3 overall this season, with all of the team’s games thus far having been in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. The Lions return to campus to host their home opener on Thursday, March 14, when the team will take on Grove City College in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
