ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will host a poverty simulation event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, in the Auxiliary Gym of the Adler Athletic Complex.
The poverty simulation is a campus-wide event involving students, faculty and staff as participants or volunteers. Participants of the simulation are placed in various roles, including social structures and families, and are given different tasks to complete. The tasks engage the participants to prioritize income and funds for food, transportation, child care, housing, etc. Volunteers will run various organizations, such as the bank, school, police, etc. The event can include up 80 participants and 25 volunteers.
