ALTOONA, Pa. — The latest book by Brian Black, distinguished professor of history and environmental studies at Penn State Altoona, has been published by Godine Press.

“Ike's Road Trip: How Eisenhower's 1919 Convoy Paved the Way for the Roads We Travel” tells what Godine Press calls the unforgettable story of the exploratory, cross-country ride by the 28-year-old Army lieutenant colonel, Dwight Eisenhower. He and his colleagues led the coast-to-coast journey in some of the world’s first petroleum-powered vehicles and planted the dream of connecting America with roads.

Black’s account contextualizes this 1919 event in the energy development in the 21st century.
