ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will display “Interplay” by Ivyside Juried Art Exhibition winner Morgan Thomas Shankweiler Aug. 17 – Oct. 5 in the McLanahan Gallery of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Shankweiler received degrees in both sociology and studio art from Williams College, and she studied miniature painting in Jaipur, India. Shankweiler was awarded residencies at the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Maine, SVA in New York City, Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, and Da Vinci Art Alliance in Philadelphia. She also works as a portrait painter for MuralArts Philadelphia. Her award-winning work has been exhibited in solo and group gallery shows and collected across the continental U.S. and online. She will be teaching a two-week workshop at Penland School of Craft and participating in residencies at ChaNorth in New York and Peninsula School of Art in Wisconsin.

“Interplay” will display artwork from Shankweiler’s “By-Chance Connection” series, “Tie Formation” series, and her newest exploration of indeterminacy. In this exhibition, she explores the rules of community through the lens of “aleatoric game-play.” In her work on indeterminacy, she allows viewers to create connection and community through their interaction of her work.

The Galleries are open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information, call the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at 814-949-5452.
