ALTOONA, Pa. — Erin Murphy, professor of English at Penn State Altoona, has published several new poems in national literary journals.
Her poem “A Day is Not a Day” appears in "The New Verse News." It was written in response to Congress declaring that the rest of the year is a single calendar day for procedural purposes.
Two other poems — “Insomnia Chronicles I” and “Insomnia Chronicles XXV” — are featured in "ONE ART: a journal of poetry." They are part of Murphy’s series of prose poems dramatizing the associative connections sparked by sleeplessness. Other poems from the series have been published in “Concision,” "Anti-Heroin Chic," "Prose Poems," "SWWIM," "Action, Spectacle!" and "Rattle."
Murphy is the author or editor of more than a dozen previous books, chapbooks and anthologies, with three additional books forthcoming from Salmon Poetry, Harbor Editions and Wesleyan University Press. She is the poet laureate of Blair County, poetry editor of “The Summerset Review” and Penn State’s inaugural Mellon Academic Leadership Fellow for the Big Ten Academic Alliance.
