Altoona’s Nick Beard receives AMCC Player of the Week honors in men’s tennis

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona student-athlete Nick Beard, of Manns Choice, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week in men’s tennis on Monday, March 17.

Beard posted wins in both doubles and singles last Saturday afternoon, helping lead the Penn State Altoona men’s tennis team to a 7-0 victory on the road against non-conference opponent Penn College.

Beard teamed up with Casey Hess, of Annville, for a 6-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles match against Penn College on March 15. In singles play, he had the match-clinching win for the Lions with his 7-5, 6-2 triumph in the No. 2 spot.

Beard is 4-1 overall in doubles matches this season, as well as 4-2 in singles matches. This is his second career AMCC Player of the Week award and his first this season.

Penn State Altoona men’s tennis is 5-1 overall this season, including 1-0 in the AMCC. The Lions’ next match is at home on March 23, when they host conference opponent Penn State Behrend at 11 a.m.
