ALTOONA, Pa. — Carolyn Mahan, professor of biology and environmental studies at Penn State Altoona, is spending part of her sabbatical in Italy, where she is collaborating with researchers at the University of Rome and the University of Molise.

They will be writing a grant proposal to explore how wildlife can persist in human-dominated landscapes in both Europe and the United States.
