Altoona’s Anna Batrus is AMCC Defensive Player of the Week

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona libero Anna Batrus, of Altoona, was tabbed as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week in women’s volleyball on Monday, Sept. 16.

Batrus racked up a team-high 72 digs in three non-conference home matches for the Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team last week, helping the Lions go 2-1 in that span.

Penn State Altoona defeated Geneva College 3-1 last Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Batrus led all players in the match with 28 digs. In a 3-0 loss to Chatham University on Saturday, Sept. 14, Batrus again had a match-high total of digs, finishing with 16. The Lions bounced back later that day to defeat Elizabethtown College 3-2, and Batrus recorded a match-best 28 digs for her team’s win.

Through 11 matches this season, Batrus leads the AMCC in digs (191) while ranking third in digs per set (4.55).

Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball is 5-6 overall this season and hosts non-conference foe Lycoming College on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.
