ALTOONA, Pa. — Shihui Shen, professor of rail transportation engineering at Penn State Altoona, has been elected as an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Fellow.

Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society. Fellow status is attained by professional accomplishments via application and election by the Membership Application Review Committee. ASCE members elected to fellow status must have a minimum of 10 years ASCE membership, a professional engineer license, be nominated by an organizational entity of the society, and have demonstrated professional excellence, contribution and leadership. Just 3% of society members hold this prestigious honor.

Through the expertise of its active membership, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public.
