UNIVERSITY PARK, PA — The culinary masterminds of the Penn State Berkey Creamery and the Penn State Bakery, who constantly explore new ways to blend their sweet products for ice cream and baked goods customers, have come up with a new concoction that is sure to stir things up.

An exclusive dessert — the Quake — will be available via mobile ordering at the forthcoming “Cow & Cookie” retail location, located near Sbarro in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus.

“Cow & Cookie,” slated to open later this month, will offer the Quake, a combination of Penn State Creamery soft-serve ice cream blended with Penn State Bakery treats such as cookie crumbles, cheesecake pieces, brownie bites and other confections. The group sought customer input on concepts and conducted surveying and sampling in fall 2021.

James Brown, sales and marketing manager for the creamery, noted that the creamery and bakery have partnered for several years, most recently on developing ice cream cookie sandwiches, a combination of bakery cookies and Creamery ice cream. These treats are sold in Housing and Food Services Convenience Stores (C-stores) at University Park, 10 campuses around the state and the Creamery retail store. Nearly 2,500 treats are sold every month.

That successful project served as a catalyst for the growing collaboration between the two entities and was an important bridge to the launch of Cow & Cookie.

“Spring is the perfect time of the year to offer the Quake, this new blended dessert,” Brown said. “Plus, we are seeking to build upon the menu as we gain more customer feedback at Cow & Cookie.”

Vince Raco, interim retail dining director for Housing and Food Services, said, “The HUB is a great retail location to introduce the exclusive dessert. With more than 14,000 daily customers weekdays seeking food and beverages, there always is a continuous demand by customers for variety and unique choices found nowhere else on or off campus.”

Orders for the cool, delectable Quake desserts must be placed through Penn State Eats mobile ordering, which is available on the Penn State Go app under the Dining tab; walk-up ordering will not be available. The official opening date will be announced on Penn State Berkey Creamery and Penn State Bakery social media platforms and the Penn State Eats website.
