UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The 2024 Penn State Horticulture Show, a popular fall event for families, will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 19-20 at the Snider Agricultural Arena on Penn State's University Park campus.
Organized by the student-led Horticulture Club in the College of Agricultural Sciences, this year's show will feature a fall theme and a landscape design created in class by students in the landscape contracting program. Additionally, attendees can purchase seasonal items such as pumpkins, gourds, apples, various plants and cider.
One of the organizers, Owen Fairchild, a landscape contracting major from Easton, emphasized the teamwork needed to organize the show. Students from the club and volunteers spend the week before the event pricing and displaying donated plant materials. These materials, sourced from landscape companies and nurseries in the mid-Atlantic region, include fresh produce, apple cider, chrysanthemums, houseplants and other items.
“We’ve worked hard to make this year’s show a fun and festive event for all ages, and we can’t wait to share it with the community,” Fairchild said. “Whether you’re picking out pumpkins or exploring the many displays, your support helps us continue our educational and competitive opportunities.”
Proceeds from the show will support the club’s participation in the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition, which will take place this spring at Colorado State University.
Open to all majors, the club encourages members to participate in various events, including recreational, competitive and philanthropic activities. Those interested in joining the club or learning more about the Horticulture Show can follow the club’s Instagram page at @pennstatehortclub.
