Penn State trustees approve series of board appointments

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Board of Trustees on Sept. 6 approved a variety of appointments to board committees and positions, including at-large members, Executive Committee directors and Penn State Health directors. 

Trustees elected four at-large members to its Executive Committee, which handles business between scheduled board meetings, including annual committee plans and agendas, outreach and oversight of University activities beyond the scope of other board committees. 

Current trustees appointed to serve as Executive Committee at-large members are: 

  • Kelley Lynch 

  • Carl Nassib 

  • Ted Brown 

  • Tracy Riegel 

The board also approved 11 directors of the Corporation for Penn State. Elected annually, directors work with the board in making decisions regarding the operation of the institution. Those elected to serve as director were:  

  • Neeli Bendapudi, president 

  • Naren Gursahaney, trustee 

  • M. Abraham Harpster, trustee 

  • David Kleppinger, trustee 

  • Tracy Langkilde, interim executive vice president and provost 

  • Kelley Lynch, trustee 

  • Tracy Riegel, trustee 

  • Matthew Schuyler, chair, Board of Trustees 

  • Brandon Short, trustee 

  • Sara Thorndike, senior vice president for Finance and Business/treasurer 

  • Michael Wade Smith, senior vice president and chief of staff 

Additionally, trustees voted to appoint members to the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Board of Directors. Each director serves a term of three years and may be reappointed for an unlimited number of terms. The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of two directors to serve through June 2027: 

  • Karen Kim, dean, Penn State College of Medicine 

  • Todd Rucci, director of government relations, PAP Technologies 

Three non-University employees also were considered for reappointment to the Penn State Investment Council. Trustees voted to reappoint all three, extending their terms from the end of 2024 to the end of 2027: 

  • Blake Gall, founder and president, Micro++ Investment Management 

  • Joseph B. Markovich, managing director, J.P. Morgan Private Bank 

  • Brandon Short, trustee
