UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Leadership from Penn State and Teamsters Local 8, the union representing about 2,500 technical service employees across the commonwealth, have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract. Local 8 leadership has informed the university that they are unanimously recommending ratification to their membership of the tentative agreement and will share more information with members in the coming days.
“I’m gratified that we have successfully concluded our negotiations and reached a tentative agreement with union leadership, continuing Penn State’s history of good-faith bargaining and reaching mutually acceptable agreements with Teamsters Local 8,” said Jennifer Wilkes, vice president for Human Resources and chief Human Resources officer. “We greatly value our technical service employees, and this contract recognizes their important contributions to Penn State and the essential work they do every day to allow us to deliver on our teaching, research and service mission.”
The Teamsters Local 8 membership is expected to vote on ratification of the contract in the next few weeks, at which point more details about the agreement's terms will be made publicly available. If the new collective bargaining agreement is ratified, it will replace the existing contract, which expires on June 30. The agreement will be retroactive to July 1, 2024, and be in effect for four years, through June 30, 2028, if ratified by the membership.
“We’re very grateful to have reached a tentative agreement with the University,” said Local 8’s President Jonathan Light. “Local 8 and our members are proud to provide exceptional service to the University community and look forward to continuing to do so for another four years. This contract recognizes the hard work and commitment of our members to the University and the commitment of the University to our members.”
Teamsters Local Union 8 represents technical service workers across Penn State locations in areas including Auxiliary and Business Services, Office of Physical Plant, and Intercollegiate Athletics.
