UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Donald W. Hamer Center for Maps and Geospatial Information at Penn State University Libraries has created a new ArcGIS Hub site that aggregates geospatial content created by current and former employees and students affiliated with the center.
The site features applications organized by key theme areas such as “Pennsylvania Historic Aerial Photography by County,” “State College Land Use Change Through Time,” “World War II OSS Maps,” “Creating a StoryMap,” and multiple Sanborn Fire Insurance Map Finding Aid applications. Users can explore data and applications in the categories of Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps and Buildings and OSS World War II geospatial content. A search box is available to search for content by key terms.
Students, faculty and staff can use content within the hub for their own projects as well. A user can select an item to view additional information and options for use in ArcGIS Online. Data layers can be downloaded in formats such as csv, kml, shapefile and geojson, which can be used in multiple types of geospatial software applications.
Item descriptions provide information related to contributors and other resources. Additional resources for instructors integrating ArcGIS Online into assignments are available, as well as a geospatial data interest form that users can submit to express interest in additional map content.
More information on ArcGIS Online is available on the Maps & Geospatial: ArcGIS Online guide. For additional information on these applications and data layers, contact the Hamer Center at ul-maps@lists.psu.edu.
