UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University Fellowships Office is hosting “Fulbright Week” April 11-15, offering daily events for students to learn about research, study and teaching opportunities in more than 140 countries offered through the Fulbright U.S. Student program.
The events are open to all Penn State students and will include a meet and greet with Penn State Fulbright students and alumni, a presentation on scholarship opportunities, and several opportunities to speak with University Fellowships Office staff members who can advise on the selection and application processes.
“We are offering information sessions and conversations with scholarship holders throughout the week so that students can gain a broad perspective on the many different opportunities available through the Fulbright Foundation,” said Tanya Furman, interim director of the University Fellowships Office and associate vice president and associate dean for Undergraduate Education.
Along with Penn State Fulbright students and alumni that will be available to speak with students, Furman will offer her own insights as a past Fulbright fellowship recipient. She was awarded a Fulbright to Iceland following her undergraduate degree and began her doctoral research program there — work she has continued for more than 30 years.
“The impact of a Fulbright year can be enormous in terms of professional and personal growth, and it opens up doors to future work with new colleagues,” said Furman.
Most Fulbright Student Scholarships require nomination from the University Fellowships Office. Study and research grants, English teaching assistant, Schuman Program, National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship, STEM-Canada, UK Summer Institute, Hillary Rodham Clinton Public Policy Fellowships, Fulbright-Fogarty, and MTVU Awards are among the opportunities that will be discussed during Fulbright Week.
