UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Transitioning to University Park from another Penn State campus can be overwhelming.
Students have entered their academic majors, and their upper division classes may be more challenging. Navigating a new campus, identifying ways to get involved, making new friends, and finding one’s place can add additional stress.
The Student Transitional Experiences Program (STEP), offered through the Office for Summer Session, helps to ease students’ transition so they can hit the ground running for the fall semester. In addition to enrolling in two classes during Summer Session II, program participants participate in a weekly workshop series called STEP Connect.
Through the workshop series students learn about campus and college resources and financial literacy, discover opportunities for engagement, and prepare for fall career days. The series culminates in a networking event with alumni and potential employers.
STEP registration is currently open to any student approved to transition from another Penn State campus to University Park. Students must register by June 1. Summer Session II arrival day is slated for June 24, with classes starting on June 27 and running for the next six weeks.
Students who participate in the program receive a $1,500 provost award toward their summer tuition costs.
