Libraries offers Destress Fest and extended hours to support studying students

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — During finals week, Penn State University Libraries is offering stress-reducing games and activities to help students relax as they study for finals and complete end-of-semester papers and projects.

In addition, Beginning Sunday, Dec. 5, Pattee Library and Paterno Library on the University Park campus will remain open weeknights until 2 a.m., while continuing to close at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings. It will reopen at 7:45 a.m. weekdays and at noon on weekends through Friday, Dec. 17. End-of-semester hours at all Libraries locations University-wide are available at https://libraries.psu.edu/hours-and-locations. Visitors are encouraged to verify all locations’ operating prior to their visit.

Destress Fest takes place in four Libraries locations across the University Park campus, offering free coffee and packaged snacks, as well as games, activities, art therapy and other stress-management options, which vary with location. Students can stop in the Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library, between 3 and 8 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday, Dec. 12-14, for free coffee and snacks, games and art therapy. 

Additional puzzles and games will be available in the first floor lobbies of Pattee Library and Paterno Library to help students stay refreshed during the busy week. Branch library locations at University Park will offer snacks, coffee hours and various activities to students while they study.  

The full schedule for Destress Fest activities at all University Park Libraries locations is listed below: 

Tuesday, Dec. 7–Thursday, Dec. 9Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library, first floor, Stuckeman Family Building 

  • Puzzles, snacks and crafts available daily, 5-8 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 12–Tuesday, Dec. 14, Pattee Library and Paterno Library, Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library

  • 3-8 p.m.: Free coffee, snacks and crafts

Sunday, Dec. 12–Friday, Dec. 17Engineering Library,  325 Hammond Building 

  • Coloring, puzzles and origami all day
  • Snacks to go (while they last)

Sunday, Dec. 12–Friday, Dec. 17Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences Library, 105 Deike Building 

  • Coloring and jigsaw puzzles provided all day, and snacks (while they last)
  • Group collaboration rooms, One Button studio, Virtual Reality Center, comfy seating and lots of table space to suit your study needs

Studying students may find the Library Guide on Personal Health and Mental Wellness useful, which includes many informational resources on topics ranging from sleep and nutrition to digital well-being and exercise, as well as links for getting help through Penn State services.
