Libraries offers De-stress Fest and extended hours to support studying students

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — During finals week, Penn State University Libraries is offering stress-reducing games and activities to help students relax as they study for finals and complete end-of-semester papers and projects.

In addition, beginning Sunday, April 24, Pattee Library and Paterno Library on the University Park campus will remain open weeknights until 2 a.m., while continuing to close at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings, and re-opening on week days at 7:45 a.m. Additional end-of-semester hours at all Libraries locations University-wide are available at the Libraries' website. Visitors are encouraged to verify all locations’ operating prior to their visit.

De-stress Fest takes place in five Libraries locations across the University Park campus, offering free coffee and packaged snacks, as well as games, activities, art therapy and other stress-management options, which vary with location.

Students can stop in the Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library, between 3 and 8 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday, May 1-3, for free coffee, snacks and crafts.

"Conscious Calligraphy: A Global De-stress Event" takes place in the first floor Franklin Atrium and Central lobby of Pattee Library to help students stay refreshed during the busy week. Event hours are Monday, May 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday, May 3, from noon to 3 p.m.

Branch library locations at University Park will offer snacks, coffee hours and various activities to students while they study. The full schedule for De-stress Fest activities at all University Park Libraries locations is listed below: 

Tuesday, April 26–Thursday, April 28Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library, first floor, Stuckeman Family Building 

  • Puzzles, snacks and crafts available daily, 5 p.m. until close.

 

Sunday, May 1–Tuesday, May 3, Pattee Library and Paterno Library, Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library

  • 3-8 p.m.: Free coffee, snacks and crafts

 

Sunday, May 1–Friday, May 6Engineering Library,  325 Hammond Building 

  • Coloring, puzzles and origami all day
  • Snacks to go (while they last)

 

Sunday, May 1–Friday, May 6Fletcher L. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences Library, 105 Deike Building 

  • Coloring and jigsaw puzzles provided all day, and snacks (while they last)
  • Group collaboration rooms, One Button studio, Virtual Reality Center (reservations required), comfy seating and lots of table space to suit your study needs

 

Monday, May 2-Thursday, May 5, Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library, 201 Davey Lab

  • Coloring and jigsaw puzzles
  • Snacks (while they last)

Studying students may find the Library Guide on Personal Health and Mental Wellness useful, which includes many informational resources on topics ranging from sleep and nutrition to digital well-being and exercise, as well as links for getting help through Penn State services.
