UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Ryan Shi, a doctoral candidate in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, will present a free public lecture titled “From a Bag of Bagels to Bandit Data-Driven Optimization” at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15. The lecture is part of the Young Achievers Symposium series hosted by the Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence and will be held live via Zoom View Webinar. No registration is required.
Shi’s work aims to address the unique challenges that arise in machine learning projects for the public and nonprofit sectors. His talk will discuss his three-year collaboration with a large food rescue organization that led him to develop a new recommender system that selectively advertises available rescues to food rescue volunteers.
Upcoming lectures in the Young Achievers Symposium series include:
- April 5: Su Lin Blodgett, postdoctoral researcher in the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics group at Microsoft Research Montréal
- April 12: "Challenges and Frontiers in Deploying Transparent Machine Learning" by Umang Bhatt, doctoral candidate in the Machine Learning Group at the University of Cambridge
- April 26: Paidamoyo Chapfuwa, postdoctoral research fellow at Stanford University
Previous lectures can be viewed at the Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence website.
About the Young Achievers Symposium
