UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Students interested in expanding their global identities by delving into a foreign language can take advantage of a wide range of programming opportunities during Global Languages Week, Oct. 23-27.
Sponsored by Penn State’s University Fellowships Office (UFO), Global Languages Week will highlight scholarships and fellowships available to students with an interest in global affairs and a passion for foreign language study. Events are in coordination with University of Global Program’s International Educational Week.
The week kicks off Oct. 23 with a global languages fellowships overview in 106 HUB-Robeson Center from noon to 1 p.m.
The fellowships spotlighted will include:
- the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships Program (FLAS) is designated for students seeking training in various “modern” languages;
- the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) affords students the culturally enriching opportunity to attend an intensive summer language institute abroad;
- the Gilman International (Benjamin A.) Scholarship is awarded to Federal Pell Grant recipients interested in studying abroad; and
- the Boren Scholarship for Undergraduate Students is intended for those who desire to study abroad in locations that are vital to the national security of the United States.
For the duration of the week, these language opportunities will be discussed at events featuring UFO staff, alongside past scholarship and fellowship recipients.
