UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Village at Penn State will host “Fake or Fact? Making Sense of Healthy Aging Science,” as part of the Healthy Aging Community Lecture Series, at 10 a.m. on March 23 at The Village at Penn State, located at 260 Lions Hill Road in State College.

The lecture will be presented by Martin Sliwinski, professor of human development and family studies at Penn State and director of the Center for Healthy Aging.

Sliwinski will discuss “health messaging,” or how to make sense of healthy aging science presented through many media channels.

“As the fake news phenomenon impacts our information consumption, it may also impact our health and wellness decisions,” Sliwinski said. "Participants can learn how to evaluate news and information sources in order to make more informed decisions."

A continental breakfast will be available starting at 9 a.m. Attendance is free but reservations are required. To make a reservation for the March lecture, call 814-865-4776 or email psuhealthyaging@gmail.com.

The lecture series is a community partnership developed and sponsored by the Penn State Center for Healthy Aging, The Village at Penn State, Foxdale Village, Juniper Village at Brookline, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Penn State.

Upcoming lectures include “Healthy Bones for Life” presented by Mary Jane De Souza, professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Penn State, on April 20 at Juniper Village at Brookline in State College; and “Memory As We Age,” presented by Nancy Dennis, associate professor of psychology at Penn State, in October at Foxdale Village in State College. One additional lecture will be announced for the fall to complete the series for 2017.
