UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Eric Marsh, associate head for undergraduate programs in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering and professor of mechanical engineering, has been appointed the department’s Arthur L. Glenn Professor of Engineering Education.
The aim of the Glenn Professorship is to support an outstanding faculty member in the mechanical and nuclear engineering department in the “improvement and reform of engineering education in a coherent and holistic manner within the context of the department and the College of Engineering.”

Arthur Glenn’s generosity and support provide a wonderful benefit to our educational programs.”
The Glenn Professorship was created in 2004 through an endowment from 1956 mechanical engineering graduate Arthur Glenn.
Marsh joined the department in 1994 as an assistant professor. His research focuses on diamond turning, grinding and spindle metrology, and he directs the Machine Dynamics Research Lab. He has received recognition for his research and teaching, including the Lawrence J. Perez Memorial Student Advocate Award, the National Science Foundation Early Career Award, the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society Outstanding Teaching Award, the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society Premier Teaching Award, the Joel and Ruth Spira Teaching Award, the American Society of Precision Engineers Director Award, and the Association for Manufacturing Technology Charles F. Carter Jr. Advancing Manufacturing Award. He is a member of the American Society for Precision Engineering.
Arthur Glenn was a consultant with Burdeshaw Associates and chairman of Kaleida Systems, a software company he started with his son. He has also served as corporate vice president of General Electric and president and chief operating officer of Air and Water Technologies Corp.
He was active in curricular reform efforts at Penn State, serving on advisory boards for the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, the Leonhard Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Education, the Schreyer Honors College, the Schreyer Institute, and the Teaching and Learning Consortium. He served on the College of Engineering's Industrial and Professional Advisory Council and was the founding chairman of the Penn State Great Valley Advisory Board.
In recognition of his career accomplishments and efforts in engineering education, Glenn received the Penn State Outstanding Engineering Alumnus Award in 1990 and the Alumni Fellow Award in 1996.
