UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Chao-Yang Wang, William E. Diefenderfer Chair in Mechanical Engineering and professor of chemical engineering and materials science and engineering, was recognized for his research in fuel cell technology, which has enabled advancements in hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Engineering professor recognized for contributions to fuel cell research
Wang received the 2021 Research Excellency Award from the International Association of Hydrogen Energy (IAHE) in August during a virtual ceremony. The award was established to honor outstanding researchers who have made significant contributions to the advancement of fuel cell science, engineering and technology through research, development, demonstration and deployment.
The organization cited several examples of Wang’s work as pioneering, including the development of computational fluid dynamics models and techniques for the simulation and analysis of fuel cells; his world-leading research and contributions in the two-phase transport and water management in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells; and the development and analysis of fuel cell cold start phenomena.
“I am thankful to my students and colleagues in the department,” Wang said. “Receiving this highest award from Fuel Cell Division of IAHE recognizes the many contributions of my students and collaborators over the last 25 years.”
