College of Engineering, three programs rise in U.S. News undergraduate rankings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In the recently released 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings, the Penn State College of Engineering ranks No. 22 in the country, advancing three places from last year’s report. Three engineering specialty disciplines also climbed in the rankings.

Industrial engineering continues to be ranked in the top 10 of its specialty category, moving one spot to No. 7 in the country. Mechanical engineering, ranked No. 12 in the country, climbed two spots from last year’s report. Computer engineering, ranked No. 18 in the country, rose by one spot.

Materials engineering remains in the top 10 of its specialty category, again ranking at No. 10 in the country.

Three programs — civil engineering (ranked 13th in the country), electrical engineering (ranked 18th in the country) and chemical engineering (ranked 20th in the country) — remained the same from last year’s report.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. A summary of the college’s rankings is available online.
